What Does It Mean to Follow Jesus?

Short Answer Version

To follow Jesus means several things combined. It means learning from Him and following His instructions. It also means keeping your heart focused on Him daily, seeking His guidance, wisdom, and direction—and then responding with faith and action.

During His time on earth, people followed Jesus physically. They listened to Him, watched how He lived, and did what He told them. Some even did what He did, including miracles.

As a child, I once imagined following Jesus as literally stepping in His footprints. Later I understood the deeper meaning.

Long Answer Version

There is a difference between a believer and a follower. A believer is saved for eternity by faith alone. A follower is a believer who chooses to become more like Jesus by learning from Him and walking in His ways.

Following Jesus means making Him the central person in your life. He becomes your role model.

A disciple goes even further. A disciple is a follower who has taken a deeper step of commitment and obedience.

Jesus once taught that it is better to say “no” and still obey than to say “yes” and not follow through.

Being a “yes” person toward Jesus—one who listens and obeys—is a good thing. Discipleship develops over time.

No one can easily judge whether they are a disciple. It is not about a title, but about a growing relationship.

A disciple develops their abilities to serve God and becomes more effective over time.

Jesus gave what is called the “Great Commission,” instructing His followers to make disciples of others.

Disciples tend to help others grow as well. They obey God, study Him, and serve Him faithfully.

Ultimately, disciples answer directly to Jesus above all others.

This website focuses first on salvation. After that, God may lead some people toward deeper discipleship.

Jesus encouraged people to count the cost before becoming a disciple, because it can involve difficulty and sacrifice.

Not all believers become disciples, and that is okay. Salvation is the most important step.

However, growing into a follower and possibly a disciple can lead to a fuller and more meaningful life.

What Earned My Entry Into Heaven?

This topic should take about 6 to 8 minutes.

Short Answer Version

Jesus earned your entry into heaven by dying on the cross for you. He removed the requirement to earn salvation through good works. The only condition is believing in Him.

Long Answer Version

Jesus did the most important act in history. He died in your place. At age 33, He was crucified outside Jerusalem in an act of sacrificial love beyond measure.

He took on the consequences of sin for all people. His sacrifice is powerful enough to cover everyone who believes.

Because of this, you do not need to earn your way into heaven. Salvation is not based on balancing good and bad deeds.

When you believe in Jesus, your name is written in heaven. You are welcomed by God.

Jesus’ resurrection is also part of this gift. We are united with Him in both His death and His new life.

Salvation is a gift. Good works are still valuable, but they are not required to earn eternal life.

God transforms us from the inside, giving us new desires and helping us grow.

The Bible shows that this plan was foretold long before Jesus came.

In Genesis, God hinted that evil would be defeated. In Exodus, the Passover lamb symbolized protection through sacrifice. In Isaiah, prophecy described Jesus taking on our suffering.

Jesus fulfilled all of these. His sacrifice is often called “substitutionary atonement,” meaning He took our place and paid for our sins.

When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He meant that the work of salvation was complete.

Understanding this deeply increases our appreciation for His love.

This message is simple, but it is also deeper than any other truth.

Website theme: All you need to do to be saved is believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior. He has already done the work to earn your entry into Heaven.
